The National ID Number (NID) project started under the former regime and redesigned by Libya’s post-revolution governments, has furnished 83.2 percent of Libyans with a national ID number to date.

No pressure was put on Congress members individually or as groups to vote for the Political Isolation Law. However, the discussions beforehand between parties and independent members had been difficult.

In another heated session at the GNC, the vexing and controversial Political Isolation Laws was finally passed this evening. The session opened with 157 members present, but half way through the GNC head announced that members present had increased to 163.

Most Libyans are satisfied with their lives and are confident that their country is heading in the right direction; awareness of relations with the European Union is low, but of those that do have an opinion, most are positive towards the role the EU could play in the new Libya.

This week, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is organizing training on migration management for 26 immigration officers from Libya’s Ministry of Interior.

Libya’s Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Al-Aujali gave in his resignation as Prime Minister Ali Zeidan presented it to the General National Congress last Sunday.

The General National Congress (GNC) has approved a “Political Isolation Law” intended to bar senior political figures associated with Qaddafi’s rule from top posts in the government and Congress.

A precise timescale was not allocated, however it could only happen once Libya has set up a new constitution, a permanent parliament and government.
