  • Water shortage hits Tarhuna

    • 05.04.13
Urgent discussions have been under way in Tarhuna in the face of growing water shortages.

Members of the municipal council, the local water company and project engineers from Tripoli have been been seeking to identify a drop in water pressure and supply interruptions. Tarhuna has a population of some 300,000. The surrounding area has extensive farmland producing olive oil, cereals, figs, grapes and sparto grass.

Though the region has in excess of 3,000 hectares devoted to cereal production, yields have tended to be low, partly because of irrigation difficulties.
