EU AND UNICEF ATTEND MONITORING MISSION FOR HIGHER EDUCATION IN MISRATA

The EU and UNICEF organised a joint monitoring mission to Misrata, Libya, last week where they visited a school and the local offices of the Ministry of Education. This initiative comes within a comprehensive programme of reform to expand access to quality education for all children. The programme started in January 2012 and has a budget of €3.1 million.
NATIONWIDE SCHOOL ASSESSMENT SHOWS GREAT NEED FOR INVESTMENT IN LIBYAN EDUCATION SECTOR

Some 40 percent of the schools in Libya were damaged in the 2011 revolution according to a report released by the Ministry of Education and UNICEF. These findings are based on a recent nationwide school assessment conducted by the MoE and UNICEF, which for the first time has given the Ministry a complete overview of the exact state of all schools in the country.

Libyan students have been encouraged to participate in two well-known EU funded programmes: Erasmus Mundus and Erasmus Tempus. A number of Calls for Proposals are regularly issued for these two programs and are meant to provide an opportunity for students and institutions to apply for specific study projects.

Deputy Prime Minister Abdulsalam Al-Gadi and Deputy Labour Minister Abdulrazag Tamtam announced that a training programme for unemployed Libyans will be launched this month.
